To provide a color filter substrate for a liquid crystal display apparatus which is obtained, by forming a thin film of a black matrix which contains a specific titanium nitride particle and has high OD (optical density) value, and layering a colored layer on the black matrix, in a picture frame light-shielding part area outside a display area and to provide a color filter, having high OD and high surface flatness and the liquid crystal display apparatus made to have superior display characteristics and high contrast by using the color filter.

The color filter substrate for the liquid crystal display apparatus is obtained, by forming the black matrix and a pattern consisting of a plurality of colored layers on a transparent substrate; the black matrix is formed by using a black pigment-dispersed resin containing the titanium nitride particle and has 0.9 m thickness in the display area; and the colored layer is layered on the black matrix in the picture frame light-shielding part area outside the display area.
