To provide a red curable composition for a color filter, which has good color properties and from which a color filter satisfying both of high transmittance and high contrast is obtained, in particular, to allow an excellent red pixel free from deviation in color properties to have a positive and small retardation value in the thickness direction, and also to provide a color filter containing the red pixel in the constitution thereof, which is superior in oblique visibility, and a liquid crystal display device using the color filter.
In a color filter provided with colored pixels of a plurality of colors, which is obtained by dispersing organic pigments in a transparent resin on a transparent substrate and has a contrast value of ≥8,500, the red pixel is colored with two kinds of organic pigments comprising C.I.Pigment Red 177 and C.I.Pigment Red 242, each being a red pigment, and the retardation Rth in the thickness direction of the red pixel, represented by a formula (1): Rth={(Nx+Ny)/2-Nz}×d, is within the range of 0-10 nm.
