To provide a color image forming apparatus capable of not only satisfactorily maintaining image quality, but also avoiding execution of such a control operation that image forming conditions are greatly changed between image forming operations performed in succession, preventing a change in color balance before and after the control and also preventing a change in the color hue of a color image in a series of image forming operations.
The color image forming apparatus includes a control means 104 which exerts the first control such that the value of a change in an amount of exposure is limited to a prescribed range, and the second control such that the correction value of an amount of exposure by an image exposure means 4, which corresponds to each of a plurality of colors, is calculated based upon the detection result of the density detecting means 101 and the amount of exposure by the image exposure means 4 is controlled based upon the calculated correction value of the amount of exposure. The control means 104 exerts only the first control under prescribed conditions.
