PURPOSE: To reduce the influence of the rise of the absolute value on the surface potential of a toner layer which is caused in the case of superposing colors with a simple mechanism, to prevent inverted development and to surely form a distinct image excellent in chromatic color with sufficient density.
CONSTITUTION: In this color image forming device, plural color component toner images are superposed and formed on an image carrier 1 by repeating electrification, exposure and development, and then the respective color component toner images are transferred to an image receptive body 6 altogether; a corona electrifier having a discharge electrode 7 and a grid 8 is used as an electrification means 2 used for the image forming cycle of at least the second and succeeding colors, and an electrode power source 9 by which AC voltage is impressed is connected to the electrode 7, while a grid power source 10 by which the AC voltage having nearly the same phase as the AC voltage impressed on the electrode 7 is impressed is connected to the grid 8. The frequency A or the peak-to-peak amplitude B of the AC voltage from the grid power source 10 is set to an optimum range.
