PURPOSE: To enable both functions of proof and lithographic films to be exhibited by the same photosensitive material by processing a specified photosensitive material in an image forming stage and a stage of dyeing the formed image with an aq. soln. of a dye.
CONSTITUTION: The photosensitive material obtained by forming a colored layer soluble in water and photoinsolubilizable in water on a transparent support is processed in the stage A for contact exposing the photosensitive material to actinic rays through a negative original and washing off the exposed part to form an image in an optical transmission color density of 0.5W1.5, and in the stage B of further dyeing the formed image with an aq. soln. of dye to form an image having an optical transmission color density of ≥2.5 in the range of the actinic rays. The colored layer to be photoinsolubilized is composed essentially of a colorant and a modified polyvinyl alcohol having as a photosensitive additional group a stilibazolium or stilquinolinium group represented by formula I and II in which R1, R2 are each independent of each other and H or alkyl, Y- is a conjugated anion, m is an integer of 1W6, and n is 1 or 2. The optical transmission color density is regulated to the range of 0.5W1.5 at the time of the end of the state A.
