PURPOSE: To enhance the brightness of a screen face without drop of the resolution by arranging a coating layer over one surface of a shadow mask, wherein the coating material is formed through mixing of magnetic powder, and thereby accomplishing a magnetic lens.
CONSTITUTION: A coating glass 15 consisting of frit glass 14 mixed with magnetic powder 13 is formed on the electron gun side of a shadow mask 10, and the magnetic powder 13 is magnetized uniformly in the thickness direction of the shadow mask 10. Therefore a magnetic lens 16 is formed at each aperture 9 of the shadow mask 10, to give focusing effect to an electron beam 17 incident these apertures 9, and the electron beams run against the corresponding fluorescent substances 12R, 12G, 12B on the screen face 2 precisely to cause light emission. Thus the brightness of the screen face can be increased without bringing about drop of the resolution.
