Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color image forming device capable of attaining the miniaturization of an intermediate transfer unit and also capable of shortening the printing time.
SOLUTION: During the operation of switching image forming units 1Bk, 1Y, 1M and 1C, the rotation of an intermediate transfer belt 32 is stopped or the belt 32 is rotated at low speed. Thus, by stopping the rotation of the intermediate belt or rotating the belt at a low speed during the time when the following image forming unit is moved up to an image forming position so that the previous color image leading end on the intermediate transfer belt may not reach a transfer position before the leading end of an image supplied from the following color image forming unit reaches the transfer position after the following image forming unit is moved to the image forming position even in the case of leaving the image forming unit switching time as it is, a time until the following color image is transferred on to the intermediate transfer belt is shortened. Thus, it is possible to start the printing operation just after the following color image forming unit reaches the image forming position, then, the printing time is shortened.
