Abstract:

PURPOSE: To enhance correction accuracy by detecting the straight line parts parallel to a sub-scanning direction of the respective colors of patterns for detecting a registration error by a pattern reading means and correcting the error of color registration so that the straight line parts of all colors reach the predetermined position in a main scanning direction of the pattern reading means.
CONSTITUTION: In a correction mode of color registration, respective interface substrates 25K, Y, M, C output the image data of registration measuring patterns to image forming units 21K, Y, M, C and registration measuring patterns 22 are formed on a transfer feed belt 8. The registration measuring patterns 22 are constituted of straight line parts parallel to sub-scanning and main-scanning directions. The output timings of the respective registration measuring patterns 22 are monitored by a correcting substrate 26 and the time when the patterns 22 come to the position directly under a pattern detecting means 20 is estimated and operated to calculate color registration shift. On the basis of the operated result, the error of color registration is corrected so that the straight line parts of all colors reach the predetermined position in the main scanning direction of a pattern reading means.
