The cylinder liner 1 has a composition containing, by mass, 23.0 to 28.0 mass% Si, 0.80 to 2.0 mass% Mg, 3.0 to 4.5 mass% Cu, 0.25 mass% or less of Fe, 0.01 mass% or less of Ni, and the balance Al with inevitable impurities. In the surface roughness of the inner peripheral face, Rz=0.5 to 1.0 m, Rk=0.2 to 0.4 m, Rpk=0.05 to 0.1 m, Rvk=0.08 to 0.2 m are satisfied. On the other hand, the piston ring has a composition containing, 0.6 to 0.7 mas% Co, 12 to 14 mass% Cr, 0.2 to 0.4 mass% Mo, 1.0 mass% or less of Si, 1.0 mass% or less of Mn, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities. Carbide of 5.0 m or less in diameter is contained therein at a rate of 4 to 10% in area ratio. In the surface roughness of the outer peripheral sliding face, Rz=0.8 m or less, and Rpk=0.15 m or less are satisfied.
