To obtain a direct dye comprising a combination of specific cationic dyes, having durability against attack factors given to the hair, imparting a non-selective dyed result having a high chromaticity, not containing a self- oxidizing dye, and used for producing compositions for directly dyeing keratin fibers such as human hair, etc.
This direct dye is obtained by combination of (A) a cationic dye of formula I or II [R1 is H or amino; R2 is H or nitro; R3 is H, a 1-4C alkoxy or the like; R4 is a 1-4C alkyl; R5 is H, para-tri(1-4C) alkylammoniophenyl; R6 is bromine, NH-para-tri(1-4C) alkylammoniophenyl; X- is chloride, methylsulfate or the like] with (B) a cationic dye of formulas III, IV, etc., [D is N or CH; R7, R8 are each H, a heterocyclic group or the like; R9, R9' are each H, chlorine or the like; A is a group of formula V (R10 is a 1-4C alkyl) or the like; P12 is H or a 1-4C alkyl; R13 is a heterocyclic ring or the like; R14, R15 are each H, bromine or the like; B is a group of formula VI (R16 is a 1-4C alkyl or the like) or the like].
