PURPOSE: To very accurately detect fluctuation of combusting condition by processing cylinder internal pressure of each cylinder in accordance with special conditions as well as detecting dispersion of fuel injection quantity between respective cylinders and thereby restraining the dispersion of the fuel injection quantity between respective cylinders.
CONSTITUTION: Dispersion of fuel injection quantity between respective cylinders, of an engine is detected by a means 11 and the dispersion of fuel injection quantity between respective cylinders is corrected within a specified range by a means 12 based upon the detected values. Rate of volumetric change of each cylinder is calculated by a means 14 by detecting the cylinder internal pressure of each cylinder by a means 13 and also detecting the crank angle. The equivalent of a charted average effective pressure in the symmetrical sections before and behind the compression top dead center is calculated by a means 15 for each cylinder on the basis of the cylinder internal pressure and the rate of volumetric change and the average value for each cylinder is calculated by a means 16 after averaging the calculated values prior to this specified frequency. The equivalent is normalized by a means 17 on the basis of the average value and the combusting condition is detected by a means 18 in accordance with fluctuation quantity of the normalized equivalent.
