Title:
COMBUSTION CHAMBER OF DIRECT-INJECTION TYPE INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5554623
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide an arrangement for combustion chamber of direct-injection type internal combustion engine, i.e., diesel engine, in which a combustion chamber is formed at the top of piston and a plurality of recesses are formed in the lower peripheral wall portion of said combustion chamber, so as to mix fuel and air effectively in these recesses and thereby to improve combustibility of mixture.

CONSTITUTION: Cavity 32 constituting a combustion chamber is formed at the top of piston 35 and a conical projection 31 is formed centrally on the bottom of this cavity 32. Further, a plurality of recesses 33 machined into a small circular form are formed in the peripheral wall of the cavity 32. With such an arrangement, fuel is ejected from fuel injection nozzle 34 into these recesses 33, so that swirl S2 is produced in the recesses. This swirl S2 is different from swirl S1 produced in cavity 32, so that turbulence is produced in the combustion chamber and therefore mixing of fuel and air in the combustion chamber can be promoted.
