Abstract:
To provide a combustion chamber structure for an engine capable of improving engine output while suppressing knocking.SOLUTION: A combustion chamber 6 for an engine is defined by a crown surface 50 of a piston 5, the inner wall surface of a cylinder 2, and a pent-roof type ceiling surface 6U. The crown surface 50 includes an exhaust side bottom part 51 arranged near the edge on the exhaust side, an intake side bottom part 52 arranged near the edge on the intake side, an exhaust side inclined surface 53 rising from the exhaust side bottom part 51 to the center part of the crown surface 50, an intake side inclined surface 54 rising from the intake side bottom part 52 to the center part of the crown surface 50, and a plane 55, the plane 55 being provided continuously between the upper end of the exhaust side inclined surface 53 and the upper end of the intake side inclined surface 54, and extending from the center part of the crown surface 50 in the direction perpendicular to a cylinder axis AX. A surface area S1 of the plane 55 is larger than a surface area S2 of the exhaust side inclined surface 53.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 8
