Abstract:
To provide a combustion chamber with a pent-roof type ceiling surface for achieving a higher combustion speed utilizing a tumble flow.SOLUTION: A combustion chamber 5 for an engine is defined by a crown surface 40 of a piston 4, an inner wall face of a cylinder 20, and a pent-roof type combustion chamber ceiling surface 5U. On the combustion chamber ceiling surface 5U, an ignition part 10A is arranged for implementing flame propagation combustion. In a center area of the crown surface 40, a cavity 80 recessed into a spherical crown shape is formed. The ignition part 10A is arranged above a formation area of the cavity 80 at a position offset onto an exhaust side of a cylinder center line C1, in a cross-sectional view along a cylinder axis Ax. A cavity center point C3 in a cross-sectional view along the cylinder axis AX is arranged at a position offset onto an intake side of the cylinder center line C1.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
