To improve combustion performance of an internal combustion engine during stratified combustion.
A direct injection/spark ignition type internal-combustion engine has a cavity shape on the same center axis with a fuel atomization injected from a fuel injection valve to a piston crown surface, and the cavity is dual-structured comprising an outer cavity and an inner cavity having small capacity in the center part of the outer cavity. In a relatively high-loaded operational area during stratified combustion operation, a fuel atomization angle of the second stage of fuel injection is made to be larger than that of the first stage of the fuel injection to form appropriate air-fuel mixture while avoiding collision against a peripheral wall surface of the inner cavity.
