PURPOSE: To make effective recovery of thermal energy and prevent harmful gas from mixing into exhaust gas by shunting and exhausting part of combustion gas from a middle position of a rotating furnace through a thermal conductive wall, and bringing the remaining part into contact with solid matter and returning it from the upper end side to the lower end side.
CONSTITUTION: Solid matter (stock material) is fed to a rotating furnace 1 from an introduction tube 8 via an inlet 2, and in a preheating zone it is heated via a thermally conductive wall 5 by part of combustion gas flowing through a shunt passageaway 6 and is directly heated by the remaining flowing in the preheating zone II. Hereby, the solid matter is raised in its temperature and flows toward the lower end of the rotating furnace. Organic matter involved in the solid matter is heated and decomposed to produce varieties of inorganic and organic gases. These gases are entrained in the combustion gas flowing in the preheating zone II and fed from the inlet 2 into the introduction tube 8, and further reaches an inlet 12 from a blower via a return tube 15. The gases are substantially fully combusted in a combustion preheating zone I together with combusting air, and gases causing any bad odor are also fully combusted or decomposed. High temperature combustion gas not involving harmful gas flows partly into the shunt passageaway 6 at a location of a partition wall 4 and is exhausted from an exhaust tube 10 while the remaining gas flows in the preheating zone II.
