Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the initial combustion to prevent the self-ignition of unburned air-fuel mixture by spraying a flame jet supplied from a sub-combustion chamber to a main combustion chamber through a sub-chamber injection port to a piston surface opposed to a cylinder head and spaced within a prescribed range from the sub-chamber injection port to cool the flame jet. SOLUTION: A fuel gas within a sub-combustion chamber 6 is ignited by an ignition plug provided in the sub-combustion chamber 6, and a high-temperature, high-pressure flame jet 7 is injected from the sub-combustion chamber 6 into a main combustion chamber 4 through a sub-chamber injection port 5. The distance from the sub-chamber injection port 5 to the surface of a piston 4 in the flame jet 7 injecting direction of the sub-chamber injection port 5 is L1, and the bore diameter of the sub-chamber injection port 5 is LS, the relation of 0.11<=L1/LS<=0.33 is established between L1 and LS. The distance from the sub-chamber injection port 5 to the surface of the piston 3 in the injection direction of the flame jet 7 can be set by changing the direction of the sub-chamber injection port 5. According to this, the jet flame 7 is collided to the surface of the piston 3 in the initial stage of combustion to transfer the heat, and cooled.
