Abstract:
To reduce unburned fuel and nitrogen oxide contained in exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine.SOLUTION: Exhaust gas of a pre-mixed combustion type first internal combustion engine 12 is mixed with intake gas of a diffusion combustion type second internal combustion engine 14. Further, exhaust gas of a second internal combustion engine 14 is mixed with intake gas of a diffusion combustion type third internal combustion engine 16. Methane acting as unburned fuel contained in the exhaust gas of the first internal combustion engine 12 is ignited within the second internal combustion engine 14 and further ignited within the third internal combustion engine 16. Combustion of methane is carried out in two-ways to enable methane contained in the final stage exhaust gas to be substantially reduced. In addition, a former stage exhaust gas is mixed with a later stage intake gas to enable nitrogen oxide contained in the exhaust gas to be reduced.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
