PURPOSE: To promote mixing of main fuel and air and to thereby ignite and burn air-fuel mixture without delay of time, by forming a small chamber into which subsidiary fuel is injected from a subsidiary injection port of a pintle nozzle, and constituting the inner surface of said small chamber with an oxidizing catalyst which constitutes the igniting section of a self-heated plug.
CONSTITUTION: In the inner surface of a swirl chamber 3, there is formed a small chamber 7 into which subsidiary fuel is injected from a subsidiary injection port 6 of a pintle nozzle 4. An igniting section of a self-heated plug, which produces heat by causing oxidation through contact with fuel, is constituted by forming the small chamber 7 with an oxidizing catalyst 9 consisting principally of rhodium. With such an arrangement, subsidiary fuel is ignited without delay of time and burnt completely in the small chamber 7. Further, since main fuel ejected from a main injection port 5 is mixed with air effectively by the combustion gas of subsidiary fuel ejected to the outside from an opening 8 of the small chamber 7, the main fuel is also ignited without delay and burnt completely.
