PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to extract not only commodity information effective on a current date but also commodity information effective on a future date and a past date from a commodity information file in accordance with a request.
SOLUTION: The management device is provided with a commodity information file 4 for storing a commodity identification(ID) code and a commodity information record formed by annexing a start date on which commodity information is validated to the commodity information. At the time of receiving a commodity ID code inquiring message 5, the file 4 is retrieved to detect the commodity information record of the commodity ID code. Then the start date of the detected commodity information record is compared with a retrieval date to be used for the execution operation of an inquiring source, and at the time of detecting a commodity information record of which state date coincide with the retrieval date, the record is extracted. When there is no commodity information record of which start date coincides with the retrieval date, a commodity information record of which start date is before the retrieval date and most close to the retrieval date is extracted. Then the extracted commodity information record is transmitted to the inquiring source as an answer.
