To solve a malfunction due to over-deposition of PM (Particulate Matter) when regenerating a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) in a diesel engine.
In this common rail type diesel engine which controls regeneration of DPF by using an intake throttle valve, an exhaust throttle valve and post injection in regeneration of DPF, a normal regeneration mode for processing regeneration of DPF at a normal speed and a high-speed regeneration mode for processing at a speed higher than the normal speed are selectively set for execution in an ECU. An automatic stop means is provided to automatically stop the diesel engine after forcibly concluding regeneration when operating the diesel engine after concluding the operation so as to forcibly regenerate DPF.
