A period A ΔSOCp when pulse starting timing of a pilot injection command pulse CPp is to deviate from top dead point timing T7 is determined corresponding to timing retroactively to an interval period Tint, a pilot injection termination delay period Tdpe and an injection pulse width Pwp for pilot injection from injection starting timing T6 of main injection. Because the pilot injection termination delay period Tdpe is determined by depending on the size of common rail pressure, the interval period Tint is secured even when common rail pressure is high and pilot injection effects such as suppression of noise and improvement of exhaust gas are maintained.
