A command for controlling a home electric appliance such as a VTR, for example, is transmitted via a home network in a communication apparatus such as a PC, for example, connected to the home network, and when a message is received from the appliance, the message including information indicating that another device such as a TV, for example, can not accept the control at present since it controls the appliance and identification information of the other device, detailed information relating to the other device is searched. Information prepared on the basis of the detailed information for supporting a user indicating that the TV in the living room can not accept the control at present since it controls its VTR, for example, is then presented to a user via a user interface.
