To provide a communication apparatus which stops or restores an interface according to a traffic amount in order to save on power without giving an influence to route calculation of a communication network.
The communication device which controls stop and restoration of the interface of the device, cooperating with the traffic amount, monitors the traffic amount of the interface, detects an interface which has no traffic amount, and stops monitoring function for life or death of the link in routing protocol regarding to the interface. After stop of the monitoring function of life or death of the link, the interface is stopped. The life or death monitoring of the link is then carried out by monitoring continuity of the link using the interface.
