PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication device capable of suppressing power consumed for communication in communication based on a CAN protocol, a communication method used for the communication device and a communication system configured by including the communication device.SOLUTION: A first ECU 11 acquires external information from external equipment, and performs information communication based on a communication message regulated in a CAN protocol via a bus 10 for communication. The first ECU 11 includes: a communication necessity/unnecessity determination unit 113 for determining whether information communication via the bus 10 for communication is necessary/unnecessary based on the acquired external information; and a communication control unit 114 for, when the determined necessity/unnecessity of information communication is "necessity", stopping information communication for a certain period of time on condition that a communication error is detected and after the elapse of the certain period of time, resuming the information communication, however, when the determined necessary/unnecessary of information communication is "unnecessity", stopping transmission of the communication message until a predetermined transmission resumption condition is established.
