To measure performance of a TCP(Transmission Control Protocol) communication on a communication path of a network without the need for especially transmitting many measurement packets to the network.
A TCP communication performance measurement device 2 obtains an effective band width (transfer rate) that represents performance of TCP communication by using both a round trip time and a maximum segment size obtained based on a variable length packet of the TCP communication sent/received in compliance with the TCP being a protocol for a transport layer of the OSI reference model and any of an average congestion window size, a packet abort rate and a packet abort event rate for performance indices. The device 2 for the purpose above is provided with a packet monitoring section 21, a performance index detection section 22, a session management section 23, a session management table 24 and a performance calculation section 25.
