To provide a communication system in which the intention of a connection destination user is reflected in the selection of a communication scheme between a connection request user and the connection destination user.
A connection request terminal 1 requests connection to a connection accept terminal 2, and a communication scheme selection server 3 reads information on a presence status from a database 37 on the basis of a user ID of the connection destination user received from the connection request terminal 1, and selects a connection destination user desired communication scheme stored in the database 37 corresponding to the information on the presence status as a communication scheme to be processed between the connection request terminal 1 and the connection accept terminal 2. The communication apparatus corresponding to the selected communication scheme then performs communication processing between the connection request terminal 1 and the connection accept terminal 2.
