A transmission device in a communication system sequentially transmits a reference frequency signal, a preamble symbol, and a data symbol modulated by the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing scheme to a receiving device. The receiving device receives a signal transmitted from the transmission device and amplifies the received signal with a gain according to a gain control signal. Then, the receiving device generates a gain control signal based on a reception strength of the reference frequency signal in order to detect the reference frequency signal and generates a gain control signal based on a reception strength of the preamble symbol in order to detect the preamble symbol. After detecting the reference frequency signal and the preamble symbol based on the generated gain control signals, the receiving device demodulates the received signal as the data symbol.
