A communication system comprises a plurality of communication units 12 and 13 connected via an ad hoc network 20 and a gateway device 11 for relaying between the communication units and a business server 9. In the communication system in which the business server 9 sends a request message A to the communication unit 13 and the communication unit 13 creates and transmits a response message B regarding the request message A, the gateway device 11 or the communication unit 12 buffers the response message B of the communication unit 13 regarding the request message A from the business server 9 and sends the buffered response message B as a proxy response message of the communication unit 13.
