PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To recognize an originator without opening an attached file by reading an original, converting it into image data, accumulating it, transmitting image data in accordance with the message transfer protocol of an electronic mail, registering and accumulating a plurality of originator information, selecting one of plural accumulated originator information and transmitting it by the electronic mail.
SOLUTION: A scanner 10 reads an original and an encoding part 7 encodes image data into binary data. It is stored in the image data storage area 15 of a memory part 8. Stored image data are converted into the format of an electronic mail in the transmission mail generation area 16 of the memory part 8. When originator information is not designated, originator information accumulated in an originator information default 11 is added as the electronic mail. Mail information generated in the transmission mail generation area 16 is transmitted to an opposite party by a LAN line 1 through a LAN interface 18 together with originator information.
