To provide technology which, in a placement of a spark extinguishing element in a DC motor with brush incorporating a commutator with its arc pieces arranged on outer periphery, can secure a space for mounting the spark extinguishing element in place without incurring increase in the motor size.

On the outer periphery of a commutator base 301, a total of ten commutator arc pieces 302 are arranged at intervals along the circumferential direction, and concavities 305 are disposed at five spots in every other space on the commutator base 301. Inside the concavities 305 are accommodated chip capacitors which connect the adjacent commutator arc pieces 302, the chip capacitors functioning as spark extinguishing elements.
