A diazonium salt obtd. by diazotizing an arom. amine represented by formula I (where R1 to R3 are each H, a halogen, alkyl, etc.) is coupled with a dichlorotriazinylamino compd. to give a monoazo compd. represented by formula II. The monoazo compd. is condensesd with 1mol of a compd. represented by the formula: L1H (wherein L1 is OR4, SR4, or NR5R6; and R4 to R6 are each an optionally substd. hydrocarbyl, etc.) and then condensed with 1mol of a compd. represented by the formula: L2H [wherein L2 is a substd. amino group represented by formula III, IV, or V (wherein R7 is H; R8 and R9 are combined with each other to form CH2CH2, etc.; X is an optionally substd. 2C or higher alkylene; and R10 and R11 are each H or an optionally substd. hydrocarbyl)] to give a monoazo compd. represented by formula IX which has no fiber-reactive group and in which carboxyl substituents are bonded to in the form of residues represented by formulas VI to VIII.
