Abstract:

To provide a cation exchange membrane with high methanol permeation resistance that is desirably used as a diaphragm for a direct-liquid type fuel cell.

The complex cation exchange membrane is made by laminating films containing an organic clay complex having organic cation between layers of stratified silicate. Preferably, the organic cation is a quaternary phosphonium ion or quaternary ammonium ion, and the complex cation exchange membrane, with high methanol permeation resistance, is desirably used as a diaphragm for a direct-liquid type fuel cell.
