To provide a component recognizing method and device which improves recognition of the accuracy of an sucked component in a surface mounting equipment or the like constituted so that an electronic component is trans carried by negative pressure suction with a suction nozzle.
In the surface mounting equipment to suck the electronic component from a components supply portion 4 by the suction nozzle 16a provided on a movable head unit 6 and to deliver the component onto a printed circuit board 3 to mount, the method is to recognize a suction state of the component through an image, by imaging an end of the suction nozzle 16a with an imaging unit 24 on its way of delivery. In this image recognition processing, the suction nozzle 16a is imaged from its end side with a nozzle hole emitted light, then the presence of the sucked component is decided on the basis of brightness at a central part of the nozzle of the image.
