Abstract:

To provide a composite adsorbent constituted by jointing magnetic fine particles to magnesium oxide, for efficiently treating various kinds of wastewater at low cost in a high volume of phosphorus-component adsorption in the wastewater without heavily causing a secondary environmental load, particularly a composite adsorbent capable of effecting adsorption treatment comparatively in a short time even though phosphorus component is contained in high concentration or suspended matters are contained, and besides capable of adsorbing simultaneously nitrogen component, and provide further a method for wastewater treatment by using the adsorbent at low cost of equipment without need for complicated operation.

The composite adsorbent comprises magnesium oxide of 0.0ml/g or more of pore volume in the range of 10-500 of pore radius in the pore size distribution by the gas adsorption method, and magnetic fine-particles jointed to the magnesium oxide. At least 90% by volume measured by the laser diffraction scattering method is of 150 μm or less of particle size. In the wastewater treatment, the composite adsorbent is brought into contact with the wastewater, while the pH of the reaction system is adjusted at 8-11 to attain sufficient adsorption of the phosphorus component, then subjected to solid-liquid separation through the use of magnetic force.
