PURPOSE: To reduce weight and improve the abrasion resistance of an abrasive grain layer by using a composite aluminum group as a binder.
CONSTITUTION: An abrasive grain layer is composed of a spongy metallic core bodies 10, which are having three-dimensional network structure, and in which super abrasive grains and whiskers 16 are dispersedly arranged on a fiber surface of the structure; and filling layers 22 consisting of aluminum or aluminum alloy packed in respective pores of the spongy metallic core bodies 10. Hard intermetallic compound layers 20 of metal, composing the spongy metallic core bodies 10, and aluminum are formed on interface surfaces between the filling layers 22 and the spongy metallic core bodies 10. Many independent pores are formed between parts of super abrasive grains 14, inside of the spongy metallic core bodies 10, and fibers themselves of the spongy metallic core bodies 10 are made porous.
