Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide anode materials with good capacity per unit area that could be conserved over at least 30 continuous charging and discharging cycles, preferably at least 50 continuous charging and discharging cycles.SOLUTION: A method for producing a silicon carbon composite electroactive anode material (AM) capable of being alloyed comprises (i) mixing micro sized silicon powder with micro sized polymer powder to form a silicon-polymer-mixture, (ii) heating the silicon-polymer mixture in inert gas to a pyrolysis temperature and keeping it there for a time sufficiently long to pyrolyze the polymer and to form a pyrolyzed polymer coated silicon, and (iii) milling the pyrolyzed polymer coated silicon in inert gas to form the silicon carbon composite electroactive anode material (AM). Such AM can be formed into electrodes by mixing AM with e.g. polymer binder, electrically conductive additives and solvent, coating therewith a current collector and drying the coating.
