Title:
COMPOSITE CAM SHAFT MADE OF AL ALLOY CERAMICS
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS63169351
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a lightweight cam shaft having excellent strength and wear resistance by joining a ceramic layer to the outer peripheral face of a cam part formed of an Al alloy material having a specific compsn. formed by uniformly dispersing Al2O3 and Al-Fe intermetallic compd.

CONSTITUTION: The cam part 1 and shaft part 2 are integrally formed by using the Al alloy material which consists of 4W10wt.% Fe, 2W12% Zn, ≤3% Ti, ≤3% rare earth metal and the balance substantially Al and is uniformly dispersed with the fine fragments of the Al2O3 and ≤2μm Al-Fe intermetallic compd. in the Al base. The ceramic layer 3 is then jointed to the outer peripheral face of the above-mentioned cam part 1. Since the above-mentioned Al-Fe intermetallic compd. is projected to said outer peripheral face, the secure joining is obtd. and the desired wear resistance is effectively assured. The composite Al alloy-ceramic cam shaft which has the excellent strength and wear resistance in combination and is light in weight is thereby obtd.
