Abstract:
Provided is a compound consolidated plywood which is obtained by effectively utilizing an oil palm trunk material, which has been heretofore regarded as an unused non-timber resource and discarded as is without being utilized, as an intrinsically woody material. As a result, the compound consolidated plywood produces no new industrial waste, can be used for a wide range of applications as a material with excellent physical properties that can replace hard wood, and can be used as a surface material with excellent surface quality, as widely as general high quality wood. The compound consolidated plywood is obtained by: laminating an inner lamination material which is formed by laminating a plurality of single sheets formed from an oil palm material and, as an outer surface material, another single sheet which is formed from a tree species other than the oil palm material and placed on at least one of the outer surfaces of the outermost layers of the inner lamination material; and consolidating the laminate. The value of the air-dried density after consolidation of the inner lamination material is in the range of 0.6-1.4 (g/cm3), and the value of the air-dried density after consolidation of the outer surface material is in the range of 0.6-1.4 (g/cm3). The values of the air-dried density after consolidation of the inner lamination material and the outer surface material are substantially the same.
