PURPOSE: To obtain an engine valve and a valve seat excellent in wear resistance, durability by welding composite hard facing by welding material specified in composition on the valve face part of the engine valve and the seat part of the valve seat, etc.
CONSTITUTION: As the head part 2a of the engine valve 2 is mounted on a turntable 1 which is inclined nearly 30 and rotated, plasma arc 4 is generated from the tip of a torch 3 faced right above the valve face part 2b, and at the same time, as the composite hard facing by welding material 5 made up of a mixture of Co base alloy powder composed of Co, Mo. Cr, Si and carbide powder harder in quality and higher in melting point than the Co base alloy powder is supplied from a nozzle at the tip of the torch 3, the composite hard facing by welding material 5 is heated and melted by arc heat to 1300-1500°C for a short time to perform the hard facing by welding 6 on the valve face part 2b.
