PURPOSE: To improve mechanical strength and safety to an organism by forming a porous biologically active ceramic with higher adhesiveness on the metallic implant base substance and by making a higher density biologically active ceramic laid as a middle layer.
CONSTITUTION: This composite implant is composed of a biologically inactive metal and a biologically active ceramic and is formed by subjecting a biological active ceramic to vapor deposition on a surface 1 of the biologically inactive metal implant base substance and simultaneously irradiating the surface with an ion beam, and in the implant mixed layer 2 is formed which is not removed due to mechanical impact during walking. On the mixed layer 2, a biologically active ceramic is vapor-deposited and a feeble ion beam is simultaneously irradiated to make a higher density biologically active ceramic layer 3 with porosity ratio less than approx. 10% in order to protect the cytotoxin of metal ion eluted from the base substance 1, and on the biologically active ceramic layer 3, a porous biologically active ceramic layer 4 with an ordinary porosity ratio and porous diameter is formed.
