To provide a composite material keeping the design properties of its base material even in a case that external force is applied and excellent even in chemical resistance.
The composite material comprises the base material and the coating part provided on the base material, wherein the coating layer comprises (A) silica or at least one kind of a component selected from the group consisting of the average compositional formula: RpSiO(4-p)/2 (wherein R is a hydrogen atom, a fluorine atom or a monovalent organic group and p is a number satisfying 0<p<4), (B) plastic polymer particles and (C) a Zr element-containing compound. The plastic polymer particles are dispersed in the coating part in an almost non-contact state and the weight ratio of (A) and (C) is set so that the pts.wt. of the component (C) in terms of ZrO2 is 0.5-20 pts.wt. with respect to the 100 pts.wt. of the component (A) in terms of SiO2.
