Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain an inorganic polymer/organic polymer composite material excellent in heat resistance, strength, etc., by adding an organic monomer to an aqueous solution of an inorganic monomer and simultaneously polymerizing the monomers by irradiating with ultraviolet rays and/or electron beams.

CONSTITUTION: An organic monomer (e.g., acrylonitrile) is added to an aqueous solution of an inorganic monomer (e.g., ethyl silicate), and the mixture is agitated. This mixture is irradiated with ultraviolet rays and/or electron beams to polymerize the inorganic and organic monomers, simultaneously. In this way, the purpose composite material consisting of the inorganic and organic polymers which are bonded with each other on a molelcular level. The wavelength of ultraviolet rays with which the mixture is irradiated is suitably 250nm or shorter, and the dose of the electron beams is suitably in the range of 0.1W50 Mrad. The obtained composite material can be effectively used as a dispersing Aterial for fiber-reinforced ceramic composite material, a material for whiskers, etc.
