Abstract:

To provide a composite material which allows a frame material for forming an enclosed space to be formed in a high degree of freedom for shaping and at a low cost, to provide a picture display unit using the composite material, and to provide a method for manufacturing the composite material.

This picture display unit comprises two glass substrates 11 and 12 placed so as to face each other at a space, and a sealing portion 33 which seals the predetermined positions of the glass substrates and provides the enclosed space in between the two glass substrates. The sealing portion is formed of the composite material 40 which comprises a sealing metal having wettability with glass and a solid material without having solubility in the vicinity of a melting point of the sealing metal. The composite material is formed by mixing the molten sealing metal with the granular solid material, and forming the mixture into a desired shape.
