Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide the titled composite material excellent in heat resistance, strength and hardness, by mixing titanium and titanium alloy with a specified rate of silicon nitride whisker.

CONSTITUTION: Powder of metallic titanium and titanium alloy is made parent material and this powder is mixed with 5W50% pts. vol. silicon nitride whisker. This mixed material is hot-pressed in vacuum under a condition of, for example, 1,200°C for 3hr in time and 200kg/cm2 in pressure. This obtained composite material is so manufactured as to have high temperature resistance, high strength, high hardness and good workability.
