PURPOSE: To provide a composite material which permits total measurement of composite thickness in the longitudinal and transverse directions or in the case of a pipe, in the circumferential direction by a non-destructive inspection by providing a region for non-destructive inspection at the boundary of the part where metals are bound to each other except Zr.
CONSTITUTION: A region for non-destructive inspection is provided at the composite boundary of an inside pipe 1 and an outside pipe 2 in the case of fitting the pipe 1 into the pipe 2 then working the pipes plastically to manufacture, for example, a composite pipe 3. A material physically dissimilar from the respective materials of the pipe 3 is placed in said region so that said material can be discriminated by ultrasonic reflection, an X-ray or the like. A solid material differing in material quality from both pipes, for example, a non-metallic material, is interposed at the boundary of the pipes 1, 2 particularly as the region that can be discriminated by ultrasonic wave reflection. A solid lubricant (e.g.; graphite) or metallic oxide (e.g.; Mg oxide, Si oxide, etc.) is used as said non- metallic material. The region that can be inspected non-destructively in this case may be the whole or part of the boundary between the outside and inside pipes according to the purpose for measuring the composite thickness.
