Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a composite reinforcing material for advanced materials, useful as a reinforcing material for metal matrix composites or ceramic matrix composites by taking such structure as to bind inorganic multifilaments and glass and/or glass ceramic.
CONSTITUTION: This reinforcing material 10(10A) is composed of inorganic multifilaments 1(1A) and glass and/or glass ceramic 2(2A) existing among the multifilaments 1(1A), being in the form of wire or tape. The inorganic multifilaments consists of e.g. (a) noncrystalline matter consisting virtually of Si and C, (b) β-SiC crystalline matter ≤10000&angst in crystal size, (c) both the above noncrystalline matter plus crystalline matter, or (d) a mixed system made up of the above noncrystalline matter and/or crystalline matter and carbon aggregate, and the elemental composition thereof pref. comprises 30-80wt.% of Si, 20-70wt.% of C and ≤2wt.% of H.
