PURPOSE: To obtain the subject material having improved oxidation resistance, strength, toughness, spalling resistance and corrosion resistance by using ZrB2 as a main component and including silicon carbide particles having prescribed particle form.
CONSTITUTION: ZrB2 having a purity of about 99wt.% and an average particle diameter of ≤1μm is incorporated with 3-40wt.% (based on the total sintered material) of columnar or acicular silicon carbide particles having a diameter of 5-20μm and a length of 10-50μm and/or plate silicon carbide particles having a maximum diameter of 5-50μm and a thickness corresponding to 1/3 to 1/10 of the maximum diameter. The obtained powdery mixture is purified to an impurity content of ≤0.5wt.%, dried, formed and hot-pressed in vacuum, etc., under a pressure of 200-350kg/cm2 to obtain the objective composite sintered ZrB2 material.
