Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a light-weighted composite structure having a high strength at high temperatures and a high resistance against oxidation.

CONSTITUTION: A composite structure having a high strength and a high density and reinforced niobium-base alloy embedded in a lower density, lower strength niobium base alloy is provided. The matrix thereof is preferably a niobium- titanium base alloy expressed by the following formula, Nb-Ti40-48-Al12-22-Hf0.5 to 6. The reinforcement is provided in a form of niobium-base alloy strands having an excellent high temperature strength. The same crystal form, particularly a body-centered cubic crystal exists, in the matrix and the reinforcement.
