This composite tension member is assembled from a predetermined number of composite rods 230 each having two ends. A wedge-like plug is formed around the ends of the respective composite rods. The wedge-like plugs are inserted into a termination fitting having a termination fitting body with an aperture at a base end to receive the bundle of the composite rods and having an internal cavity that flares outwardly from the base end to a distal end to closely receive the wedge-like plug with the respective composite rods imbedded therein. A closing nut is used to retain the wedge-like plug in the termination fitting body.
